Weather is not Strategy. Nor is Hope.
Indian Summer in the Czech Republic is called Babi Leto. Last weekend, I spent in Prague, and the temperatures hit 30 degrees Celsius, which were record temperatures for this time of year — a true Babi Leto weekend.
We’re no longer surprised by record temperatures. The weather, wherever and whenever we look, continues to surprise us.
No worries.
Your weekly Insight is not about global warming or climate control, nor is it about how my generation is not preparing the next generation for a better future. Nevertheless, we can’t deny that the weather times are changing, and this unpredictability should serve as a caution for our future plans.
A few weeks ago, I was in France in the Alps, and the village where I stayed, Les Gets, underwent a transformation from being predominantly a ski town to one of the best places to bike.
Those mountains are perfectly capable of pleasant bike journeys, and the lower slopes don’t get enough snow anymore in winter. Many ski stations at lower altitudes have been vacated in recent years because they can no longer be profitably run due to a lack of snow.
So why this weather update and why does it matter to you?
