Is it me, or is good old service rapidly declining?
I typed this story after I boarded a plane to Istanbul, where I was transferring to Kathmandu…
I’m on my way to hike to Everest’s base camp. I’m flying Turkish Airlines, one of the better global airlines. Check-in and security are well-staffed, boarding is smooth, and the plane leaves early.
I don’t know how they do it or whether Erdogan is behind it, but it works. When flying to Asia, you have several options, and almost every airline offers excellent service.
How different was my ‘service’ day leading up to the boarding process of TK1770 to IST?
The check-out at the hotel was slow. The lady checking me out did not know how to separate the business bill from the Coke Zero I had from the minibar.
I ordered an Uber, which flew by my street and got lost on its way back. The driver was driving further and further away. He would have been there in 1' if he hadn’t made the mistake. I cancelled him after 5'. I switched to Bolt. The Bolt driver was not very good, or perhaps his car was broken. It felt like I was jumping up and down all the time.
