See it through
When we think about delivering results, we often read about translating strategy into action.
No strategy will ever be successful without executing that strategy into results. A leader’s ability to execute is one of the most essential qualities.
As we have to deliver on our desired strategy, we should pay equal attention to executing our desired culture — or perhaps even more.
As a reminder, culture frequently beats strategy. Some leaders, like Peter Drucker, believe that culture always beats strategy.
When your culture is one of indecision, distraction, lack of trust, lack of teamwork, and impatience, you will never witness the success of your strategy.
Execution of your strategy simply has no chance of succeeding.
Therefore, and Peter Drucker refers to this, you will have to build a strong and admired company culture that enables and supports the execution of your strategy.
Look at companies like Google, known for its innovative and inclusive culture, and Zappos, famous for its customer-centric culture. Unfortunately, it takes time to change and implement a proper culture — time we don’t have, and increasingly less so with our constantly changing world.
