It’s not a democracy here
“It’s not a democracy here.”
Have you ever heard that quote?
I’ve heard it many times in my corporate career when a senior leader felt that decision-making was too slow, too many people were involved, and things were not moving forward.
They were not wrong.
Business is not a democracy. When you’re the leader of a team, function, or organization, you have ‘earned’ the right to call the shots. You are the boss of all bosses and can technically do whatever you want.
However, [your company] not being a democracy doesn’t mean you run it like an autocracy.
Last week, I wrote about making people feel they matter. When you’re the one calling all the shots without including your team in the decision-making process, you’re not making them feel better.
People like to be heard. People want to be included in the decision-making process. People, often also leaders, have opinions on how things are going. People usually see things better than you may see them.
So, why wouldn’t you include them?
