Better Starts with Who
The title of this Insight, like many others, underwent an evolution. It started as a working title and gradually transformed into its final form as I delved deeper into the content.
The titles I wrote down consecutively for this Insight were: High Performing Team; Performance; Simply the Best; and Better Starts with Who.
The idea I had was to follow up on my Insight of last week that addressed the topic of Winning. I discussed what separates the winners from the losers and pointed out the relentless commitment to a goal that most winners have. That relentless commitment is valid for both individuals and teams.
You can’t win as a team when you don’t know where you’re going.
You also can’t win as a team if you don’t know who you are as a team.
When I work with teams, two things matter. Always. I’ve never seen it differently:
1. Quality of Alignment
2. Quality of Interaction
Alignment is not a luxury for a team; it’s a necessity. When a team is aligned on purpose, strategy, goals, and priorities, success is not just a possibility; it’s a certainty. The best teams understand this and work on it consistently.
