“Erik, why do you want to write the book you’re working on?”
It’s a question I often get when discussing my dreams, work, and love for writing.
It’s a good question because the answer reveals much about who I am. Writing is not just a professional activity, but a personal passion that relaxes me, triggers my curiosity, and feeds my creativity. There’s something spiritual about sitting down and starting to write words down on a piece of (virtual) paper.
Writing is a personal pursuit and an activity that supports and transforms my business. It makes me research and think through topics, and most importantly, it helps me be more visible, connect, and expand my network. I don’t write to scale my business. It’s an incremental activity that helps me grow and connect with my readers.
Writing my insights and book will not make me rich financially, but it will enrich my life in many ways.
If I want to scale my business exponentially rather than incrementally, I need to adopt a different mindset and think radically differently about what I’m doing.
Scaling a business requires an entirely different cultural compass inside any company that wants to grow exponentially.
